* Recorded Las Vegas, August 3 1969. Dinner show.
Elvis had made many movies in 60's before he did a live comeback in Las Vegas. This concert was from 23 August 1969 midnight show. Title is 'Here I Go Again' and release year 1994. The show was fantastic and Elvis was in great mood and high spirit.
Elvis usually opened his shows with 'Blue Suede Shoes' in 1969. This version is very dynamic and Elvis was singing and rocking. Before 'I Got A Woman' The King said several times "Well" before launching into the song. TCB band showed very fantastic skills this day. After 'I Got A Woman' Elvis sang 'All Shook Up' from 1957. In other words he opened the concert with 3 dynamic old hits. And after Elvis said, "Good evening ladies gentleman, welcome the International Hotel" he says it is his first show since 1961.
He then made several jokes and sang his first movie song 'Love Me Tender'. 'Jailhouse Rock/Don't Be Cruel' medley is next and this is a very rare song for Elvis shows. Of course 'Heartbreak Hotel' is very important in Elvis' life. The King talked with the audience before singing 'Hound Dog'. This version is so high and James Burton guitar solo very fantastic.
1969 was bright year for Elvis
Elvis then sings the new song titled 'I Can't Stop Loving You'. This song was from 1969 Memphis session. Elvis liked it and he often sung it in later years. Another new song in Las Vegas is the Chuck Berry classic - 'Johnny Be Goode'. The King sang it wonderfully. After this song Elvis talked about his life story. Almost over 7 minutes! You can only listen to this monologue in 1969 Las Vegas shows.
The second part begins with 'Baby What You Want Me To Do' from his comeback special show. This is a pure blues song and Elvis did it perfect. 'Runaway' is a classic song from Del Shannon and only used in his 1969 shows. Many fans like the ballad 'Are You Lonesome Tonight?' and Elvis sung this song several times in 1969. He often sang other singers work in Las Vegas '69 shows, like Bee Gees 'Words' and The Beatles 'Yesterday/Hey Jude' medley. During introductions of his band Elvis made several jokes.
'Suspicious Minds' is a very long version and Elvis talks to the audience while singing it. When Elvis made "Viva Las Vegas" he sang 'What I'd Say' in the movie. This song is by Ray Charles and in my opinion Elvis' performed it better than he did. Elvis used 'What I'd Say' during the introduction of James Burton in later years. But that version was usually very short. As normal the closing song is 'Can't Help Falling In Love' from the movie 'Blue Hawaii'. The last two songs are taken from the August 3 dinner show.
And The King rose in Las Vegas one more time...
