Don't get rid of your old Myford ML7 or Super 7! (The one in the video is is a 1969 machine)
This Myford Super 7 lathe is using a prototype CNC kit which I have designed and tested over several years. I hope to start retailing it in the near future. The kit contains stylish and robust castings to support and protect the components. The X and Z axis use ball screws for maximum precision, backlash elimination and torque conversion. Preloaded angular contact bearings carry the feed-screws to reduce friction and to prevent axial end float It also has powerful stepper motors to maintain accurate positioning under demanding machining operations that you will want to perform as well as to give a reasonable production rate. A quadrature encoder is fitted to the spindle for screw cutting any pitch thread (imperial, metric & anything in between)and also to control speed through a feedback loop. Speed control of the spindle is done using a 3phase motor which is controlled by an inverter.
The kit can be bolted onto any ML7 or Super 7 lathe very easily and takes little time to align precisely. It will transform the lathe into a very versatile machine with unlimited creative possibilities. The lathe can also be used manually if you feel the need to twiddle hand wheels!
The software I use is Mach 3 or the totally free Linux operating system and EMC2
For Copyright reasons I am only showing the cutting operation in the video at the moment and not the components of the kit
Note: If a gearbox is fitted on your lathe, then this will need to be discarded altogether as you just don't need it any more.
No taper turning attachments needed
No ball turning apparatus required
Not even a top slide is needed (I would recommend not having one at all)
See what you think of my video's as I upload them
Regards
Alan
I tried sending you a message, but it was not allowed, would you mind adding me? I have a few questions if you don't mind sharing a bit of information. It is about the VFD/Encoder, as I assume the patents will be for the mounts.
Thanks.
