Virtualization inside Virtualization. German audio comments, english captions. How to setup and install a LXC Linux Container incl. a net-installation of openSUSE 11.2 running on an openSUSE 11.2 Server inside a Virtualbox running on a Windows host. Getting scared? Just watch, it's easy. No kernel patches, just userland tools. I'm showcasing some own scripts (based on work by aljex) that will make life easy to run a 0% overhead operating-system-level virtual machine with IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity to the outside world using as much as 5mb ram per virtual machine. Its resources can be limited by a scheduler and eventhough it uses host devices, it is pretty secure.

  • Wow I should have looked closer. I didn't realize before that you were actually claiming to have written the wiki page I wrote.

  • @KEYofR ? Actually, I have never finished the wiki page I was working on because I realized that there was already a present one that I simply corrected (which might have been yours).

  • @chotaire Yeah it was mine sorry for sounding like a jerk. I see you did add to that page. In the move to the new wiki that opensuse did, they initially just broke a zillion links, and then they copied that page but dropped all the attributions so it looks like it was created by the guy that copied it. (the original is at old-en.opensuse.org to see. I'm "aljex".) I've updated my lxc rpm to 0.7.2 now, and relaced all the start/stop scripts with one init script. Works great.

  • I wrote this some time ago opensuse.org / LXC (now it's old-en.opensuse.org / LXC thanks to the wiki team breaking everything...)

I made start/stop init scripts so that the host can be shut down and it will shut down all the containers gracefully first. They definitely need more work to be more robust but they do function.

I'm currently watching the lxc and libvirt mail lists for some major recent developments to gel before updating the lxc package to a new version as there are major changes.
