Winter Park High School Chorus Presents - Night on Broadway 2009 : Smokey Joe's Cafe
Presented Through Special Arrangement With R&H Theatricals.
Benefiting The Tyler Rush Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Tyler Rush (1983-1998) was an energetic and enthusiastic member of Concert Choir and Park Singers when his life was cut short by a tragic car accident. He truly loved musical theater and enjoyed the productions in which he participated, including First United Methodist Church of Winter Park's production of "Joseph...", Rollins College Annie Russell Theater's production of "A Month in the Country", and the Park Singers' production of "Godspell".
It means a lot to the Rush family that the Choral Department continues to remember Tyler through "Night on Broadway", the proceeds of which benefit chorus students as they pursue college education. Since 1999, over $60,000 in scholarships has been awarded to deserving chorus students. The Rush family would like to thank everyone for keeping Tyler's memory alive through this production.
"There is a vitality, a life-force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost." -Martha Graham-
In 2008, the Winter Park High School Choral Department commissioned an original song in celebration of Tyler Rush's spirit. Through the creativity and generosity of Broadway composer Jason Howland and Dani Davis, "There Is Only One You" emerged. Based upon the above quotation by American dance pioneer Martha Graham and an extract from William Shakespeare's "Hamlet", "There Is Only One You" captures the spirit of Tyler Rush - joy, happiness, and a love of life. This commissioned work provides an inspirational message of courage, hope, and empowerment for current students and tonight's audience.

@mrhsinger It is a good school. Socially and intellectually it is pretentious, but you'll be a part of it so you won't feel bad about it. Seeing that you wanted me to describe the school socially as well as intellectually, you'll probably fit right in.
Speaking of which, I'm the one who sings "Ruby Baby" and "Youngblood". I graduated Magna Cum Laude 2010. I am 120 years old and can grow a full beard twice a day.
