The economy in shreds, unions out of control, fresh memories of power cuts and three day weeks, the oil crisis, a terrible drought and water shortages... and people had a bucketload more fun than they know how to have, or are allowed to have, here in the miserablist 21st century. Fun times, fun music, joie de vivre. You never appreciate what you have until it's gone.

The 70s were frakkin ace. Anything went, and often did... but at least there were memorable tunes.

If they'd jazzed it up a bit they'd have made a great punk band, I can just picture the Granny with a kilt bumflap, bondage zips and mohican haircut
