@brianmmulligan That does not boost the reputation of an Institute. In any case, it deters people from going there. I have contacts from Sligo who told me all about your Institute. Those testimonials are rigged because (1) you either pay students to give rave reviews about your Institution and (2) they will not speak out against you for fear of retribution against their grades or (3) the fair and balanced responses are edited to suit your agenda. Every Institute and University does this.

Thanks for the reply

Hi,
Regarding the Manufacturing Management course, can presentation assignments be submitted online or must you give them in person at the IT?

(3). Yes, the lecturers may mark hard and that is because we expect the same standards as we do from our fulltime students. Both employers and our students value this as it means that the qualification from Sligo is worth having. We have lots of unsolicited testimonials from our students saying how useful they found the experience.
@Highwaycrazy I have had to split my response into a number of contributions. The bottom one is first.

IT Sligo has been the most active college in the country in doing this and our students say that they really appreciate this. If you have any particular issue with our online courses, just let us know and we'll do what we can to get it fixed.

Our number of part-time online students is increasing every year and this is mostly by word of mouth as opposed to our marketing. We have a lot of students in large companies who tell their colleagues about them. It should also be said that it is the obligation on higher education courses to make their course more accessible to people who cannot travel to the colleges.

We don't have a budget to pay for testimonials and I have not come across this at other higher education institutes. The feedback we get from students does not effect grades as it is anonymous. You are correct in saying that we only use the positive comments in our advertising. These are the vast majority and as I have said we use negative comments to improve the service.

@Highwaycrazy All feedback we get from students is either anonymous through online forms, or else as unsolicited emails. I am only involved in online, part-time courses. The feedback on these is mostly from good to excellent. We do get criticisms regarding individual issues each year. These are encouraged and very valuable as we use these to improve the service.

Hi Piffles. Lecturers can decide themselves where presentation assignments are to be made but we always try to minimise travel and most (if not all) lecturers let you make your presentations over the web in the online classroom.
