I recently downloaded a free piece of software from the internet called Wax 2.0. It's not a demo version, and will continue to keep working. It has a chroma-key function and works quite well. There are various tutorials on YouTube explaining how to use some of the other functions of Wax 2.0

you can get it at Best Buy for less than 50 bucks

I think it's a good software for beginners and the price is totally affordable.

Also, another good one is Adobe Premiere Elements 7, but this one is $100
