I got to agree with the guy who responded to the Barre Times Argus article that is online. You would have been better off to do a little bit more research on the subject and have some hard facts rather then speculation and educated guesses. Take the time to find a worse bridge next time, there are plenty in Vermont.

You can't hope to be successful in politics without doing your homework first and have all the facts in hand when you speak.

I would like to respond with two points. First, the best research is firsthand research, and in fact, this report is based on public documents filed at AOT. Second, the hardest fact of all is that AOT many engineers and career professionals have been working very hard to address this issue for decades. Our state employees as a whole have been doing the best they can with the budget they are given and the leadership, or lack of thereof, of appointed politically appointed officials.

Yikes. I just read that Vermont ranks eighth in the country for percentage of bridges needing major repair or replacement. Check out the Times Argus "Vermont's Bridges Database" for inspection reports. You can search by county.

We need to do something.

Makes you think 2x about all the bridges you drive over every day. The bridge on interstate 89 between exits 17 and 18 going north looks pretty crappy too!
