  • I found that (at least in my neighborhood) not many kids were spontaneously playing outside, everyone set up "play dates". There was little to none, "Hey everybody, let's go play baseball!"

It's pretty depressing to think most of childhood playtime and socializing was structured and scheduled (i.e. recess, birthday parties, etc.) and not as on-the-spot.

  • @snes90 Play and especially outdoor play has been quietly under attack for the last 15-20 years. Everyone blames computers or video games, but I think the biggest cause is fear by parents to let their kids go outside unsupervised. So kids stay inside where parents think they are "safe". Kid just don't collect to play anymore. Even recess, which was the time kids could count of playing and being outside, is under full assault as many schools are cutting that time or eliminating it all together.

  • Love this! Sharing everywhere :-) BTW, what is that song? Can't get enough of it.

  • @janeyjane00 It was composed by Angelo Oddi in Toronto Canada. We love it as well and it does stick in your head :-)

  • What is the name of this song and who is the and that is performing it?

  • Nothing better than watching this inside with the curtains shut on my computer.

  • What is this song called? I can't find where to download it...

  • All the little twats at the YMCA summer camp I worked at didn't mind being outside, so long as they could bring their DS and play Pokemon under a tree

  • @AliminiumHydroxide Think it is pretty cool that you did what you did without any understanding on what you were doing. Assuming that you used a point and shoot digital camera and stitched them together with some kind of editing program. Philip Bloom who is a cinematographer in UK is a fabulous resource and has a great site if this is more than just a passing fancy. Tripods can be had for dirt cheep if you want to try some more if you get bored again ;-)

  • @activekidsclub Thanks for the advice but I literally just made those videos out of boredom over the summer holidays. I have no tripod, or any technical know-how.

  • @AliminiumHydroxide The true reality is that there is a lot to do outside. Checked out your stop motion animation tests and you might want to try your hand at timelaps photography outdoors. Looks like you don't have a remote shutter release, but you might want to pick up a more stable tripod to calm the camera jitter and give it a go.
