This video shows the simplicity of the apparatus required to filter Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) for use as a fuel in certain diesel engines. Please note that in order use 100% WVO directly as a fuel in your car, your engine MUST have a Bosch fuel-injection system or similar (e.g. Mico in India).

WARNING! - If your diesel engine is fitted with a Lucas fuel-injection system, or one of the more modern electronic systems, you will almost certainly damage your engine using 100% WVO directly as a fuel!

  • Is filtering to 1 micron really necessary? I've never heard of such fine filtering before. Nice set up, but seems like you'd need a tonne of free time to babysit it.

Also, a two-tank system on the 306, yes?

  • @vyseyboy : The opinion of most is that filtering to 1 micron IS necessary, if you wish to avoid blocking your car's own fuel filter.

No, my 306 has a Bosch fuel injection system (but not all of them do - some have the Lucas system fitted), so an extra fuel tank is not necessary. This stuff just goes straight into the single fuel tank.

It works just fine .... better than diesel, in fact! It's well worth the wait!

  • @MrPhotodoc Check out mercedessource , they have an electric booster pump its about $170 it adds 10psi to the fuel system, It helps out a lot with the thicker fuels. I have run 100% WVO for years now and that pump has helped out drastically, it even helps add a little more power and fuel economy. not huge gains but wit it for the $170 investment.

  • Hi good job:) I am going to create similar system as I'm fed up with heating oil on the cooker and then pouring it up through the filter to another bucket. Tell me please how long these cartriges last for ?

  • what about dewatering?

  • Very cool, and congrats from the USA on living green! I have a 76 Mercedes 330D that I burn old home heating oil in the winter and 50/50 blend wvo and diesel in the warmer season.

  • Hi and thanks for the video. I am setting up a filtration system soon. I heard that 10 microns is the size of the fuel filter in most vehicles so is 1 micron necessary? Also many other setups on youtbe involve dewatering of the oil, do you not need to dewater?

  • @GoaBiofuels Nice one, cheers for the info. My assumption was that cold starts would be tricky / stress the pump with veg oil alone - although I know 306 fuel filter is pretty good once it's running as it is block-heated, great for veg oil.

Was hoping to do something with my 106 or 306, but both have lucas! Time to buy an 80's merc!
