This is an open access occupational film about the library profession, and becoming a librarian. It was shot in 1947, and I think it holds up quite well in the world of Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 (hehehe)

Do you like people? The young as well as the old? People in all stations of life; as long as they're white?

I love that the medical librarian was really stumped by the pronunciation. Because, after all, she's only a woman. Silly woman. Get back in the kitchen.

Well, I am pleasantly surprised how well this holds up today! Of course, one must change books to "information" and the Circulation Librarian to clerk/assistant, add a bank of computers and a Collection Management department, and throw Office 2010 assistance, web design, and digitization into the mix, but on the whole this is still a great introduction to the profession. I love the emphasis on people skills; those are foremost.

I worked with a Librarian that SO loved books and hated people that he took a whole collection home out the door, never to be seen again.

When I saw we had to watch a video on You Tube for class, I was pleasantly surprised. This video must have been made in the 50's or so! I vaguely remember watching videos in black and white, instructional, with narrative voice overs a looooong time ago. I got a kick out of seeing this! (And learned a little something too... ) :-)
