Kalinka is possibly the best known Russian folk song ever, largely due to the fact that it was always a showpiece song of the Red Army Choir wherever they performed and when they sang it it sounded marvellous. In particular, the male voice choir singing the chorus and then harmonizing behind a soloist, usually a tenor, and accompanied by balalaikas made a memorable sound which would have the audience enraptured. At some point, the tenor would hold on to a note for an impossibly long time with apparent ease. I have tried to do so in the last verse, but only have breath enough for about a quarter of the time he would have held it. This translation of the song comes from the BBC Radio Broadcast for Schools called Singing Together and may not be a literal translation of the actual Russian words.

  • i think you should traspose this song to ur voice. dont be afraid of shouting more. it will make ur voice amazing, coz you have talent, but you are killing it.

  • @KorayLuleci The microphone I was using would not take any more volume in my voice. It would cause too much interference.

  • kaULinka?

  • @MpaB4o I do not understand your question.

  • Too bad you changed the refrain. The literal translation is: Little snowberry, snowberry, snowberry of mine!

Little raspberry in the garden, my little raspberry!

  • @Fajoekit I am singing the version presented by the BBC Schools Programme, Singing Together broadcast in the 1970s. I do not speak nor read Russian, so was unaware of the literal translation. Thanks for the information.

  • @threelegsoman no no, i didnt mean your voice is bad, but for example, you had put the capo to the 3rd fret, but if you put it to the 5th or 6th, your voice is gonna surprise you, and will be much more better. you should try it! and i think you should use a pick too. to get stronger sound from the guitar. nevertheless, you are nice!

  • i just want to say that this, Sir ,is really awasome, i recorded that on my iphone ,showing to my friends ; )) ''

  • I was looking for a simpler version of this song. Was taught it when I was a little kid by playing only the lower string.

    But this is much better.

    Thanks for the upload.

  • i like this one the most of all of them. nice job!
