A novel by Armistead Maupin about life in San Francisco in the mid 1970's, turned mini series by PBS (origianly) then as the storys went on, was later picked up by Showtime.
In the middle of the hippest city in America, residents of Barbary Lane in San Francisco are living the hi-ife to the fullest. Here you'll find bohemian life at it's best: men, woman, lovers, strangers, gay and straight, always there for each other with a quick laugh or some good ( but not always leagal) advice. Besides the delicious nights and horrific mornings-after, they all face suicidal millionairs, the threat of marriage, and notorious not-yet-exposed killers! Mary Anne Singleton has just left her smalltown life behind and decided to make it in the big city, SF, Ca. The only person she knows is Connie Bradshaw (Parker Posey) who also grew up in Cleavland, and there isn't much that Connie would "rule out" for fun!!

  • OMG, I officially love you right now! It has been forever and a day since I last saw this..when I was still in high school. Now I'm around MaryAnn's age and totally need to start having "Tales" of my own, fingers crossed. :-) BTW, is that Parker Posey?!

  • @jivillasenor It is parker posey. she's in the first here and there until the 4th episode i think. She also makes an appearance in more tales as well. I'm glad you are enjoying them! when i was 19, a friend and i drove down highway one in his 1955 mercedes for my first trip ever to San Fran. We read this whole series out loud on the way down in the car. I then spent the following 13-14 years living there! i too was in Love !!!!! (want me to up them and send you download links?) :) djcruMbs-

  • My favourite show ever. It is the reason I went to San Francisco

  • @samiun2 i too fell in love with SF and i hadn't been there yet. was reading this whole series in the car as me and a buddy drove to the city for my first time! ended up living there for 13 years :) Glad everybody is enjoying the uploads! -djcruMbs=

  • Just a quick point. It was the UK Channel 4 who produced the original Mini-Series which PBS showed later. Second Mini-Series Was co-produced by Channel 4 and Showtime, The Third was produced by Showtime only.

  • Tales of the City started as a serial in the San Francisco Chronicle, it was published as a book later on

  • OMG tha

    nk you for this

  • @spinoza1111 I'd love a friend like Connie

  • @B4UDSide hey thanks for the show, can you tell me order in which i can start to watch, cause for example there is tales of the city part1 chapter 1 there 2 of them so am confused a litttle if its no trouble.

  • parker posey!!! i looove her!!!

  • I will always love anything Laura Linney does, because of her "Mary Ann Singleton" on Tales of The City, everything she touches is magic. Thank you Armistead Maupin.

  • Chloe Webb aka Mona Ramsey didn't return for the sequel because she wanted more pay than the other cast members who were all paid equally. Marcus D'amico said that he felt "ambivalence" about returning as Michael Toliver in the sequel because he is a straight actor, so the producers chose someone who would wholeheartedly embrace the role. Republicans have made this type of show politically impossible to do today on 6/4/11 and they also want to get rid od Medicare & Social Security...ELITISM !

  • @licebaby Yes! This was back when PBS was worth watching. Now it's a shadow of its former self. No arts or independent programming at all

  • Thanks for the uploads. Excellent series. Missed watching it.
