Another friend of mine sent me Miranda July's other album/debut, 1997's "10 Million Hours a Mile." It's quite a bit different than the follow up. The two things that struck me the most was the completely over-the-top nature of the songs compared to the more subdued but equally creepy songs on the second album. Also, The Need (the kids that do the music) are much more prominent in this. It sounds less like performance art with occasional music and more like spoken-word music, like Slint or something, I guess. Well, it's not Math Rock, but whatever.
So it's a bit crazier and louder and more active. I've not given it more than one go, so I'm not sure which album I prefer. For now I'll stick with her second.
And I seem to have encountered that problem a few people run into every now and then where the video continues after the song ends, but I think I figured out what causes it. Wait...why am I telling you this?
Enjoy...
Holy fuck. She is such a performance artist. All I can say to this is what the fuck? She reminds me of the softcore version of Marina Abramovic
