College Football Virginia Tech Hokies at North Carolina Tar Heels (-3) (3:30PM ET) (ABC)

North Carolina head coach Butch Davis and his recruiting has improved the program. The Tar Heels have begun the season at 2-0 and that includes a 44-12 win at Rutgers. Wide receiver Brandon Tate is making big plays for Carolina and will be a difficult assignment for the Hokies defense. Quarterback T.J. Yates has performed well for North Carolina as he has completed over 60% of his passes with 5 TDs and only 1 interception. With a struggling offense Virginia Tech is turning to sophomore quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Taylor completed only 53% of his passes a year ago. The key for the Tar Heel defense will be to keep Taylor out of space. And if they do North Carolina will be OK. The Hokies skill players really havent gotten the job done. Play North Carolina 3.

Selection: North Carolina -3

  • Hey...good job Heels since the Hokie game, including Notre Dame. Brilliant! From a Hokie fan, I wish the best for y'all and us Hokies better watch out for Duke, UVA and Miami, or UNC could still go to Tampa.

  • I agree, they should have brought Sexton in instead of Paulus. But even with Yates at QB, your offense only managed to get 10 points. You're not going to win many games when you turn the ball over 4 times and have over 120 yards of penalties. UNC won the first half, VT won the second half and the game. It's as simple as that. Now if your team regroups and focuses on the upcoming schedule, they may have a shot at going to Tampa. I wish you guys good luck.

  • By the way Mike Paulus isn't even starting no more. Our 3rd string QB is better then he is. Cam Sexton should have played in that game. T.J Yates injury should have brought Sexton in, not Paulus.

  • Obviously a Virgina Tech fan. You would say that. Let's be real Virginia Tech got lucky. If our bonehead backup QB wouldn't have thrown a interception at the end, the game would have went to UNC.

  • Actually, it was 10-3 when Yates got hurt. Greg Little ran for a touchdown when Paulus was at quarterback to make it 17-3. And with a 17-3 lead, your defense has to step up. VT has one of the nation's worst offenses (ranked 112th after the game), yet they scored 17 unanswered points on UNC's D. It wasn't Yates' injury that cost UNC the game, it was the fact that their defense blew a huge lead. Let this be a lesson: when you're winning, buckle your chinstrap and finish off the game. No excuses!

  • T.J Yates got hurt. He is out for about 6 weeks unfortunately. That's why UNC lost. They were winning 17-3, but then QB T.J Yates went down. Virginia Tech wound up winining 20-17.
