The state-of-the-art stealth ship, whose bow stem includes seven-and-a-half tons of steel recovered from the fallen World Trade Center, is scheduled to be commissioned into the U.S. Navy's fleet on November 7.
The USS New York -- a $1 billion amphibious assault vessel -- was constructed at the New Orleans "Avondale" shipyard of Northrop Grumman Corp.
Built into the vessel's bow: 7 1/2 tons of steel salvaged from the rubble of the World Trade Center. Workers inscribed the words "Never Forget" on their project.
