thats the whole point. as a kid watching this film, the theme music was so weird & eerie, it freaked me the hell out. it set the tone for the film, which is fantastic. very well acted, ingenious special effects [considering the budget], a sense of very creepy realism. it has indeed earned its cult classic status. it was such a hit in 1958 that they kept re-issueing it to theatres throughout the 60s & early 70s. the title theme was a work of pure genius!
