he still has little bit accent

Every thing he mentioned happens to every other Indian new comer. And coming to his grammar, I saw many of us indians write so correctly but while speaking, with stress or tense, we tend such grammatical mistakes.
Obvious that though he was an A student, high chance of committing mistakes.

believe me his situations are not made up...lots of indians regularly face these kind of situations...in fact one thing that happened with me is that in India we call erasers as "rubbers", obviously since we are using it to rub away what is written. When I came to the US I realized that "rubber" actually means a condom here...Luckily my friends corrected me before I made this mistake in public :)

i am a grad student in USA.. i studied from IITD and BHU in india .unfortunately my english sucks...one day i was going to a conference with my boss and i had to keep my luggage in the car...i asked my boss " Professor could you open the dikky ?" he was shocked from this questions .....he just splited my pronounciation as DICK +KI .....which i did not mean to say...i just wanted to keep my stuffs in the 'trunk." which i used to call dikky in india ..
