@stephntilly Barbaro did what he was trained, and what he loved to do........run and race. There are plenty of racehorses who have been unsound and who have raced anyway. Hindsight is always 20/20. What I have is a viable theory, based on a chain of events. We will never know for sure what caused Barbaro's injury. One thing we can agree on is that all people with a heart, and even a passing interest in horse racing, were all touched by Barbaro's battle to live.

@mjcamck Very well stated. Barbaro was CHAMPION. He lived as a champion, and he died as a champion. His name will always be on the Kentucky Derby winners list. He died doing what he loved to do, and his legacy will live forever.

@redfordforpresident Your name says it all. Robert Redford hates the USA, and he hates everything this country stands for. Just look at his movies, and how they always cast a negative light on historical events in the U.S. Anyway, back to horses. If you are so worried about horses and how they are "tortured", the surely you must be at least equally concerned about professional HUMAN athletes and all the injuries they suffer, right?

@PlaYah1979 What happened to Ferdinand in Japan happened for MANY years in Japan. There are MANY champion thoroughbred horses who were shipped to Japan after their racing days were over, and who died at very young ages (under 20 years old). The death reasons ranged from "heart attack" to "intestinal disorder" to "laminitis". Nobody has investigated this "stuff" until just recently.

@TheProfessorOfLife If he injured his leg in the false start then how did he gallop out of the gate and travel half way down the straight before he broke down?
Thumbs up for the quick response of his jockey!
