Earlier this year I bought a MacBook Pro with the Core i7 (Sandy Bridge) and Apple's new "Thunderbolt" port.

I also have an external Apple Cinema Display that's been working fine. My old MacBook had no problems (using mini display port).

The new machine periodically goes black or just completely freaks out - wavy lines, colored snow, etc.

I took it in for service (along with the monitor) and we were able to replicate it with other Apple Cinema Displays at the Apple Store. The kept my system over a holiday weekend and replaced the Logic Board.

The problem continues.... It's a Thunderbolt problem.

  • Mine does the same thing. I was promised (1) it's a software problem related to the monitor, not a hardware problem related to thunderbolt and (2) since it's a software problem, we'll fix it soon.

"Soon" is long gone, and it's still not fixed. Plus, there are consistent reports that people with older MacBooks / MacBook Pros (pre-thundebolt) used these displays without any problems UNTIL they upgraded to a MBP with TB.

  • @mjasoncunningham yeah i can confirm it NEVER happened with my old MacBook Pro and this same display. It wasn't until I got the new system that this started happening. Just got off the phone with Apple Support (again) and they have made *another* appointment for me to see the "geniuses" at the Apple Store.

    Frustrating.

  • why would you buy a 1000$ laptop and use windows 7 on it?

  • I also have a 2011 MacBook Pro which won't make a stable connection to an external monitor e.g. my TV.

Its a terrible, terrible flaw for a £999 laptop.

  • ok i know this is a problem wich many macbook pro users have! Thats because of some new updates but apple don´t do anything at the moment but I think they will fix it! ;)

  • @DJPolska07 Depends on what you really do on you mac or macbook pro. I use a macbook pro and use it primarily for school. I bought myself the wireless keyboard and also wondered which one was better: the magic mouse or trackpad. I went with the magic mouse and love it! The trackpad, I'm sure, would but almost satisfying, however, you wouldn't be able to use fast motions at the pace you want like you could with the magic mouse.

  • OT, which one u prefer magic mouse or trackpad?

  • Did you get it fixed with apple did you háček AppleCare any problems
