I think SK is unique because it actually went back to what Shaolin Temple monks used to train. Doshin So was inspired by the wall paintings in Shaolin Temple which showed Chinese and Indian monks practising.
As for joint locks and throws, Chin Na, Eagle Claws and a few other types of Kung Fu have them but the throws shown here are distinctively Japanese. The fluidity is missing for some reason but all the same, the techniques are good and well executed.

@ccthedragon When shaolin kung fu was brought to Japan, the Japanese essentially "Japanified" it. That means they added the flavor of the native Japanese arts and used the Japanese name. For example, you see the hardness and sharpness of karate, and also some throws and takedowns from jujutsu. In terms of lineage, I don't think there is a direct correlation however.

both use joint and lock techniques, but there is no direct relationship. Kaiso learned numerous styles of kung fu, which also has locking techniques and incorporated it into Shorinji Kempo. But they are two completely different styles. Shorinji Kempo also has blocks and strikes of more traditional Kempo.
Actually, when my sensei started, Aikido schools in Kyoto didn't like the SK schools and tried to instigate the students, and accused them of stealing techniques. Now there's mutual respect.
pls enlight how shorinji kempo relates tos aikido? thank you for any reply!
