"We're talkin' about stickball," Alan Silverman shouts when his parents ask him to give up playing the game he loves to help "the crazy girl" next door. When Alan first meets Naomi, a young French girl whose father was killed by the Nazis, her only response is to scream. Nothing he does seems to make a difference. His persistence eventually pays off, and the witty and charming Naomi emerges. They quickly become close friends. But Naomi is as fragile as the balsawood model planes Alan flies and is constantly repairing. He begins a bittersweet journey that will change him forever. This tender, witty story teaches us that we should always do the right thing, no matter what happens.
