Amanda Palmer (of The Dresden Dolls) performing "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" at Bush Hall in Sheperd's Bush, London, UK on 03-August-2007.

Everyone sat down around the Steinway grand piano for a stunning encore.

This song is a cover and can be found on the album "Plans" by Death Cab For Cutie.

  • I first heard this cover, then looked up Death Cab's version. No offense, but I was really dissapointed when I heard theirs', Amanda has this eerie, sad, and very poewrful way of playing it that the lighter, almost happy DCfC version just can't match. Love it.

  • If you want to go by the conventional... what is supposed to be accepted as a "good" female voice is normally just plain boring. What makes Amanda Palmer a great vocalist is her INFLECTION, her EMOTION. Anyone can take vocal lessons from the time they're three and hit every note perfectly. It takes a true artist to use their voice to capture that emotion and give it to the listener.

  • @getsuei725 Well,thats the idea,its a kind of happy song

  • I was standing next to the piano at this show... So beautiful x

  • @BranDtada That may be what the original version of the song was supposed to be about. But covers are all about reinterpreting the music and coming up with something else new and beautiful. I like the original version too, but this version can actually make me cry, and the Death Cab version can't do that to me. It's very simple though... if you don't like the cover, don't listen to it, and don't put it down - because there are plenty of people who DO like it.

  • Crazy haunting.

  • I love Amanda Palmer... I also love Death Cab... That being said, I don't see why people would be split by Amanda's version; she didn't deviate a whole lot from the Death Cab version... If anything it was a very safe cover. Sounds good, but doesn't take a whole lot of risks. Either way, I like it.

  • Both versions are amazing, everyone shut up, fuck! No one cares about your opinions, you all make me want to kill jellyfish with ninja throwing stars!!

  • Death Cab For Cutie and Amanda Palmer did the song the way they felt about it. Quit hatin. Making music is a personal thing, so don't hate on people for not doing it the way you wanted. sheesh.

  • lol the first time my friends showed this to me i thought it was a dude haha i was wrong

  • I hate this version...This song was meant to be a happy/sad song....A song about death...but the fact that their love will last....even after death....the way she does it makes it gloomy and seems like it is morbid...it's awful...takes away all the meaning the song was meant to portray.

  • i kinda felt the same way... but the words are still there. its a beautiful piece of literature. i love the hauntingly beautiful lullaby feeling she gives it.
