I can't balance when I do these... You are meant to put the leg down on the floor? Whenever I go that low while balancing, my heel comes up quite badly.

Yes, the knee goes to the floor. How's your ankle mobility? Poor ankle mobility is a likely problem.

Not bad, my friend.
Take out the momentum, as small as it may seem, at the start of the lift.
