The third installment of a genealogy how-to series I'm making. I've been doing genealogy for over half of my life, and have a database with over 69,000 people in it. I've also hardly spent a penny on it. I have found that free software and free databases are just as useful as the expensive genealogy services. This episode details how to use the free website www.rootsweb.com to search for ancestors. Mostly, I use the "Worldconnect Project", a huge database of individual databases that are uploaded by people and cross-referenced and indexed for searching.

  • Love the videos! Thanks. But I Do think the annoying computer voice deserves a name. He's a knowledgeable guy and has a nice sense of humor. :)

  • The voice's name is "Rich" from the AT&T text to speech synthesis lab. I've used him in a few of my videos.

  • Thanks for the rootsweb video, I'm just starting to learn about family history.

  • What family tree disc do you recommend...I've been looking at the reviews on Amazon...and Family tree 2007-2009 has the lowest stars...Which one do you use??

  • Looking forward to more annoying computer voice!!!
