1A Auto shows you how to repair, install , fix, change or replace your front shocks with their loaded struts. This repair is performed on a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire. The repair is basically the same for any 1995-05 Cavalier or Sunfire and any front drive MacPherson strut car.

  • Hey 1AAuto. Thanks for the video. I replaced the front and rear struts on my 97 Pontiac Sunfire. However when I would turn left, the front right tire sounded like it was skidding. I got it aligned and it seemed to help, but when I turn left sharply enough it will still skid. I can't replicate this when turning right. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • @kooldude1992 You may want to check the inner and outer tie rods to see if they are working properly and not frozen. I would also check the ball joints too.

  • i just got a question, is the floor jack underneath the ball joint preventing it from breaking something? just curious as i have a 99 chevy cavalier and need some new struts, pads and rotors

  • @expresstrucker1 It helps prevent the a arm from swinging down while you unbolt the top.

  • really great video, first video i watch and i subscribed to you, i acutally just graduated for auto mechanic, and this lady wants me to replace her front shock absorbers on i believe its a 2003 chevy silverado, i know i can do it but im a little nervous, i was wondering if u had a video on that, or something similar, i would apreciate it a lot. thanks

  • @003Mexicano Thank you for checking out our videos. As of right now we do not have a video of that particular install.

  • @1aauto Thanks for your response 1AAuto. The problem was that the alignment was knocked off so badly after I changed the struts, it caused a huge wear in the side of the front right tire. I only had driven it a single day and it did all that damage. The total toe in the front was something like -2.03. The tire is what caused the skidding.

I highly recommend anyone who changes their struts to get an alignment as 1AAuto suggested in their video.
