1702 was built by Baldwin in Sept. 1942 for the U.S. Army, sold to several other railroads, and wound up on the GSMR in 1991. Sadly she was removed from service in 2005. Too bad GSMR doesn't see the value in this G.I. and seems to be refusing to restore her to her former glory. GOD BLESS AND LONG LIVE 1702!

  • Dufus its state owned

  • @goldcoastflyer GSMR is actually owned by a group called American Heritage Railways. Yes, it was originally state-owned, but AHR took over in 1999-2000.

  • Great work man! gota love that PS4 whistle.

  • Thanks! I wish she was still running.

  • Poor 1702 and 722. Both great steam locomotives having to sit in slumber until someone willing to rebuild them will wake them up.

  • Those generator cabooses they have are hideous. I really wish they would get an old baggage car and convert that for use as a generator car. The look of the trains would be much more uniform.

  • @borderailAROK Thanks! I'll be sure to look for that album.

  • @TubaFreak1989 Hey man just in case you havent heard yet GSMR just bought a Swedish steamer B&ML 1149. She is a high drivered 4-6-0 and still has all of her Swedish couplers. So it sounds like maybe this year of 2011 will mean a semi revival of steam at GSMR.

  • HAAAAAA lol im good friends wwith one of the conductors... 722 is more likely to be restored than her! :'(

  • @TubaFreak1989 how do you know itll be 2010? shes still in pieces

  • Great video. Hopefully they will restore her.

  • when i was little i love going to cherokee cuz it meant riding a train and wa something that me and my great grandpa loved i remeber when they used to run the engine tender first back to dillsboro it was an amazing sight to see any way i was up in bryson andstarted asking questions what i found out was that they dont plan on running 1702 ever again and as of 8/08/08 they closed the dillsboro depot so trains only run out of bryson now AMERICAN HERITAGE RAIL should have never bought the rail road

  • Great Video! I sure do miss her.
