The reason is the people who get a free house may end up losing it, is simple . They key problems that caused them to be a pity case in the first place remain . Often the people can't/ dont work and don't find another way to obtain income . An easyway would of been to rent out a room in the dream house you have, . You think you can buy a car , ect , when you can't

@dr32803, they were given enough cash, that the interest on that cash would have covered an extra 700/month for the bigger property tax bill and electric etc. The tax bill went up roughly 250-300/month at the MOST, which leaves an extra 400/month for the electric. My parents house is bigger and the bill in total is far less than 400/month. The wife did not work, so if the extra 700 a month couldn't cover those bills a seasonal or part time job would have. They are 600,000 in debt after 3 years!

Preach it!!!! You really said what I thought when I heard this DEPRESSING story. My folks live in the same county as the Harpers. You should hear the BS that has been coming out of their mouths, like the costs they could not afford. I can estimate their bills, using my folks as a comparison, and with the 250,000 in the bank plus let''s say 3% interest, they had more than enough. AND if they did not, why start a business when you can't make ends meet? Why couldn't the wife get a part time job?

@dr32803 The family received a home with no payments, enough money to pay the taxes/insurance for up to 25 years, and scholarships for their 3 children. And, the family still lost the money because they took out the loan for $450,000 to open up a construction business (a business that no one in the family knew anything about and had no experience) and lost it all within 15 months of receiving this. And...the family is being sued by a hospital for $10,000 worth of doctor bills.

@dr32803 Bills should not matter becouse they were given a free place to live, thats a savings of about 800 dollars a month that their saving on rent or mortgage payment, I don't care how big the house was the electric bill should not have been more than a couple hundred dollars, are you trying to say that theese people could not come up with 800 dollars a month to pay the bills,
