So this is my Amv! i worked super hard on it and it has no subs. The anime is Princess Tutu and the songs and artists are listed in the credits. I wasn't really a fan of this pairing, but after i heard this song i couldn't resist! (EDIT: ^^;;i am now a fan of this pairing...) and Ahiru kept showing up in all my clips; it was a pain to cut her out...((don't kill me Fakiru shippers!! ::hides::))
All songs and video footage used are copyright of their respective owners. So this is my first Amv ever, so please rate and review! ((btw, apparently this song is about...like heroin and not...boys. oh well! XD))

EDIT: Someone asked me a question about the meaning of the amv that I ended up writing an essay to, so I thought I'd paste it here. XDD;;

The video is about how Fakir wants to protect Mytho, and in essence, keep him as he is, as the emotionless prince he can protect. The yaoish undertones are...mostly intentional, but in my opinion, unavoidable either way. XD;;

"The dragon" and "my valuable friend" were used as metaphors for the swords in the series and (in a perfect world where I hadn't just been like "Clips of Mytho and Fakir! =D" I would have used Lohengrin's sword specifically for "The dragon" that chases the pain away, and the Prince's sword specifically as the "valuable friend" that fixes the pain.) since Mytho getting his heart returned to him is painful, as Tutu says, Fakir wants to fix that pain by cutting out the prince's heart. On the other hand, "the dragon", or Lohengrin's sword, is more to be used as a weapon that chases away things that can harm the prince.

Even the chorus is somewhat maintaining that Mytho is "the one" he has sworn to protect. The lines about him "retiring" and "abstaining" are pretty much a reflection of the scenes chosen to illustrate those lines, him thinking he'd never have to retire, i.e.: him going to lengths to keep Mytho as he was so that Fakir himself would never have to accept his fate of dying in a useless fashion. Abstain in the sense that he didn't think the time would come where Mytho would actually fight back and he'd have to stop himself.

As for the backfire part, I THINK (it's been awhile) I meant that Tutu's actions would go so far as to make him bring the sword out again. But, if I were to do this over, I would have chosen the scene where Fakir realizes (or...is told by a dark Mytho, rather) that him breaking the sword in two means that he can't fix the darkness growing in the Prince's heart, i.e. right at the beginning of season 2.

The next two lines of "higher" and "fucking with brains" are just lyric matching, no particular meaning behind it. But the next lines ARE very relevant (which is why I didn't up and remove the segment, something I considered doing). Obviously, thinking it wouldn't "expire" is Fakir thinking that it wouldn't get to the point where Mytho wanted to get his heart back, and the line after goes hand and hand with that, "never thought you'd go break the chain" because Mytho himself rebelled against Fakir's protection.

The entire song really has a dark, melancholy, suffocating feel to it, in my opinion. And that feeling epitomizes Mytho and Fakir's relationship to me, particularly in the aspect of what goes on behind closed doors. I'm very much a fan of Fakir and Ahiru, but...these two have a bond, that much is undeniable. At face value, this video is a...Fakir/Mytho yaoi amv, but figuratively it attempts to look a bit deeper into their relationship.

Although I like Fakir and Mytho as a pairing, to me it seems that there would always be something painful about it...it thrives on both of them staying the same, so when Mytho begins to change...it all seems to fall apart, something I think Fakir feels rather helpless about. It makes me think of the end of Akt. 8, Fakir walking away after Mytho says he wants Tutu to return his heart. That must have been...a very isolating moment for Fakir. And Mytho didn't really even spare him another glance. (Even Tutu did. o_o;;)

Not that I don't think Mytho appreciated it but...well, I don't know. I tend to sympathize with Fakir. Even if he really wasn't following the right course of action, it was, at least, what he thought was the right thing to do. And even if he had some of his own reasons for it with being afraid of his own fate, I genuinely believe that he wanted to protect Mytho. And that's really what their relationship is about to me. ^^

Iffffff you read all that and you agree, clap your hands! =D;;

  • *clap clap* It's just amazing how you explained it. To be absolutely honest I don't think the vid would have stood out on its own, but your explanation for the symbolism shows so much that it's absolutely cool <3

    Great job ;D

  • XD Wow, you actually read my wall of text. *impressed* And thank you so much! A lot of the time, I feel like some of the amvs I make might go over people's heads, so I like to clarify my ideas when I can. XD And thanks for the review, I'm glad you liked it!

  • LOVE IT! The song suits it so well!

  • XD Why thank you! I think the music fits them too! :3

  • Beautiful AMV! Not only is it well put together, it's great choice of song (a song is about whatever the listener perceives it to be about anyways <3). I'm impressed this is your first one, and you also took on a long-ish song yet kept the video interesting throughout (I always worry people'll run out of scenes or something). I'm kind of tempted to start watching this series now.. great work anyways! x3

  • XD Ahhh, thank you very much. I was actually surprised that the song worked out, but it did. ^^ As for the length, I actually cut it somewhat, but I kept most of the song since I thought the lyrics were relevant. I'm glad that it was still interesting though! (Ahahaha, I had scenes to spare. >.>;;;) You SHOULD! It's a really good show, Princess Tutu. This video only shows one aspect of it, but it's a very deep series. Thanks for the review, I love reviews like this! ^^

  • I still think this is one of the best(if not the best) Fakir/Mytho vids out there. :"D

  • Great video, great concept. Although, you do know this song's originally about heroin right? xD

  • Wow, what a beautiful video, keep up the great work :P

  • This is absolutely amazing. The video alone would have been wonderful enough, but the fact that you put so much time and effort into analyzing your work and putting meaning into it, well, words cannot describe. I like also that you can look at this video in one of two ways: simply yaoi, or something much deeper. Really captures the essence of their relationship. Poor Fakir! Really, really spectacular video. Thank you for making it for us fans to enjoy!

  • Wow, this is beautiful... When I first heard this song a while ago, I hoped there was an AMV like this out there, because it's really perfect for these two! So to find this makes me so happy. You did an amazing job, and you captured their relationship perfectly. Well done! ; w ;
