  • Ultimate roomdispleaser? I guess a mixture of (alcohol) vomit and garlic.

I'm also a kinda new subscriber, I've been watching your videos for about 3 weeks now, and I'm smoking pipes for about 3 months now.

    Anyways,

Till this day every pipe, no matter whether it's a small bowl or big or meerschaum, I can't smoke the first quarter cool. It always becomes so hot I have to put it away until it's cool again. But then I don't have any problems until the end.

Do you have any advice for me?

  • @JamesAedan switch tobacco to English tobacco and smoke slower, use matches not lighter

  • Is this your longest video?

  • @sniper0diper I have a few thousand videos, I doubt it

  • I have been watching your videos for about a month now and just want to say that i really enjoy them. About a month ago i started smoking a pipe and thats why i ask you a lot of questions. I feel like there is a lot more to explore in the world of pipe smoking than cigars which i used to smoke. So i just want to say thank you for giving me a lot of knowledge of how to do everything, I really appreciate it.

  • @whatever93born anytime!

  • I work next to a tannery, that's a nasty smell. Fish flavored tobacco sounds pretty bad as well. Unfortunately, noone in my family likes the smell of Boswell's Northwoods, which is probably the tobacco I reach for most... :(

  • "grease trap" scented pipe tobacco. I work in the food industry and every so often someone comes out to pump out the grease traps for the drains beneath the building. It's definitely the worst smell to ever grace my nose hairs. Worse than the smell of cat diarrhea (which is pretty damn horrible)

  • @JamesAedan Glad to be of assistance.

  • @gunner525 I think I figured out my problem:

When I first lit the tobacco, I always pressed it down too much.

Since I'm using your advice to let the weight of the tamper do the work, I don't really have a problem anymore, and it's a pleasure from the beginning till the end of the pipe.

I can enjoy my pipes a lot more now thanks to you!

  • the texture is ruff i had it twice sucked in a way but better if you let it set had some fron nam and a korean bud had one stunk up the kitchen and it was not realy my cup of tea

  • @JamesAedan I still find myself surprised at times with how fast different blends smoke and need to be tamped more often. It seems Mac Baren aromtics are a lot slower of a smoke than the Peterson aromatics I've had. Anyways glad to be of help. Keep enjoying your pipes.

  • @gunner525 Thanks! I did like you have suggested and I was kinda surpriced when I pressed down the ashes went down quite a bit. I guess I really have to tamp more often.

  • I don't know if you've ever been around a paper mill, but they smell AWFUL!! This smell would make the ultimate room-loathing tobacco. If you can imagine a used rubber diaper filled with bad Chinese food... That's it! "Paper Mill Massacre" would be the name. Haha.

  • @JamesAedan Sounds like you're probably puffing too often in order to keep the tobacco lit. Easiest way to deter this problem is to tamp more often. Do the charr light and let the tobacco expand, then tamp it down flat, and give it one more light. Then after about four minutes of sipping on the pipe let the weight of the tamper press the ashes down. I only smoke aromatics and had the same problem in my first few months as well. This solved the problem nicely.

  • @JamesAedan Keep in mind - you don't have to get the entire surface of the tobacco glowing hot. Try just lighting enough so that it gets burning on its own. It's better to have to relight than have your smoke taste like hot ass.
