Here's a live demonstration of using Transcribe! to slow down instructional music videos without changing the pitch.

Transcribe is able to read in a wide variety of video formats. For this demonstration, I'm using a file formatted as .mp4 for a video iPod.

To view full screen, hover the cursor over the video and click the zoom icon in the lower right. While in fullscreen mode, click the "Scaling" button in the upper right to toggle between original size (640x480) and filling the display.

The program is published by Seventh String Software. I'm using the Windows version, but the program is also available for Mac and Linux systems.

  • but how do you save the videos?

  • @poopplushado You'd have to use another program for that, the main purpose of this program is to slow down music in real time for learning tunes, but if there is video it will sync up the video with the audio. You can export export the slowed down audio as a .wav file, but not the video.

  • Hi...Seems like a useful tool. Could this program be used to slow down videos on youtube? I don't mind paying for it, but since it is very convenient to type in any tune I want to learn on youtube and watch and listen, it would be ideal if it worked with said.

  • I was looking for a program to slow down music or videos. Lol i'm an accordion player. Thanks!!

  • Thanks for the info Michael. I've just downloaded the trial. I've been wanting a program like this and I think it's great. Well worth the cost.

  • cool, thanks Michael, I'm pretty sure this will come in handy. I like however the fact that you play a slowed-down version of the tunes you teach anyway! :)
