My fiance and I are planning on camping there within a month or so. Where is the best place to go swimming? I know there is a North Higgins Lake and a South Higgins Lake (the south being a lot smaller?) Is the water warm? Do you know which lake would be best for fishing?
I've watched other vids of Higgins lake on youtube and the lake is breathe taking! Is it as amazing in person?
My family has owned a house on this lake for over twenty years and I can say it is one of the best lakes in northern Michigan. The south part of the lake is smaller but not by much and has most of the best spots for swimming.
The place where I took the video is at the north west part of the south lake, right where the two lakes meet. You'll see a lot of boats anchored at the drop off, on one side will be five feet of water and the other side will drop off to over 100 feet.
There is another shallow area in the middle of the south part of the lake used for swimming. You won't miss it just look for all the boats anchored in the middle of the lake. The water temperature should be fine in August but may be on the cool side.
The north lake is best for fishing you should get a map from a local bait shop for the best areas
I don't know how familiar you are with the big lakes of northern Michigan but this lake won't fail to impress! After 20 years I am still
