Post-veliger (21 day old capsule) stage of the Japanese Nassa, Nassarius (Hima) fraterculus. Eggcapsule incubated at 19°C. Initially thought of having planktonic development, this species shows direct development as at day 18-19 days the velum disappeared and the foot became distinguishable along with eyes at the base of tentacles. Developing individuals can withdraw completely inside the shell which is now pigmented.Scale is at 1mm. Footage is par t of ongoing research on the life history traits of this species.
