Members of Demand a Hospital and Healthcare for the 99%, an official working group of Occupy Wall Street, staged a picket, an OWS-style "speak-out," and a "DIE IN" to draw attention to "A COMMUNITY WITHOUT A HOSPITAL" at the former St. Vincent's Hospital's O'Toole Building at 30 Seventh Avenue (between 12th and 13th Streets) on May Day from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.
Community groups cite the closure of St. Vincent's Hospital as a public health crisis. The closing of the hospital has left more than a million residents, guests, and tourists on Manhattan's Lower West Side without either a full service hospital or a Level 1 Trauma Center. Doctors, nurses, and patients will picket and stage a die-in to symbolize those who will die without access to necessary healthcare in the U.S.
While New York City, New York State, and the Medicaid Redesign Team make budget cuts to healthcare and close more and more hospitals, activists question why real estate developers and healthcare corporations can make large profits. In the face of public healthcare budget cuts and irresponsible and dangerous hospital closings, activists are organizing around the idea that a truly universal, single-payer healthcare system is the only viable option that will provide healthcare for all.

I doubt they are being charged for police brutality since it happens pretty much every day in the NYPD and no one cares to stop it. Search for the video Rodriguez Vs. Winski Montage of Police Suppression (for just a few examples) Occupiers intentions are pure (they hope for positive change, so don't deserve to be attacked for assembly/freedom of speech) Beating people solves nothing (just fuels the fire) and in studies kids that were beat by their parents had lower IQs than kids that weren't.

You come across as pretty angry and hateful yourself with all the comments you are posting on here. lol What most claim to want is not free stuff but a fair share. Majority of them are peaceful (while some might be violent) I can't blame the ones that protect themselves when they are victims of police brutality. What if you were on the street and a cop out of no where cracked you with batons or punched you in the head, just for standing on a street? I bet you would be angry too for that.

I am fine with protesting what you believe in but, let's see, these people do not know what they want except for FREE STUFF. Make others pay for their stuff. And then they go crazy and start to bust things up! Very ANGRY. HATEFUL and VIOLENT PEOPLE!

You don't know me at all, I don't identify myself as a protester nor live in NY It's a police state which turns me off, over 8 thousand security cameras out there and crooked cops (And I hate camping!) I'm just a person that believes in and supports freedom of speech, human rights and justice. Anything people want to protest they have the power to from the Amendments. If anyone is spoiled I would say it's the rich people that get off on greed, or pay to keep the justice system corrupt.

You first, dumb fuck. And instead of making up your own reasons as to why they occupy, you should ask them, in most their minds they are fighting for everyone that is being ripped off, and many people there do have jobs. America means freedom of speech and assembly, they have the right to be there without being a victim of police brutality, anyone that feels different are the ones that hate America, NY is more like a Nazi state.
