Here's my latest composition on the Hank drums: Starting with a few chords some months ago, I expanded it over the last two weeks. After recording myself plinking away for a half hour, I was able to edit it down to a three minute song.

At the start I had the metronome set at 120 beats per minute. At 1:02 I reach down and reset it to 160 bpm for the metamorphosis into the second part of the song.

You can make your own Hank drum as well. It's a fun weekend project if you can safely handle power tools. Details are on Dennis Havlena's site at http://dennishavlena.com/for-webpage-lp-hang.htm

I had problems getting the valves out of my new propane tanks when I was making these, but I was able to get them devalved at a local propane supply shop for $5 each. It's an idea if you can't get the pipe wrench & extender to fit.

  • WOW, as a trapset drummer, I AM LOVING THIS.. How did you learn the "cords" notes etc... Ima have to get some of these..

  • @Weallfart With my first Hank I kinda followed Dennis Havlena's plans for a D-minor Pentatonic. After plinking around I wanted more notes and googled some before making a 2nd Hank with a mutated F-major Pentatonic scale so I had some octaves and more notes (inspired by Dante Bucci and his two Hangs). The rest was playing around until I heard something I liked and practicing scales/chords (i.e. D-G, E-A, F-Bb, G-C ... here). If you can afford ~$2K look up the Hang or Halo. Now _those_ are cool!

  • Nice. I like the progression.

  • Thank you! It may be a little tinny over computer speakers compared to in person, but you get the idea :).

  • really nice! Love the two-tank bit!

  • Thank you much! I was inspired by Dante Bucci and his two Hangs.

Have you made it through all your Hitchcock movies (from your comment on my Hitchcock theme video)? He made many great films.
