SB5/Issue 2 decimates collective bargaining in Ohio because management gets to pick the final contract. They can still it call it "bargaining" but bargaining only exists where both sides have something to lose and something to gain. It doesn't matter what is allowed to be collectively bargained if in the end, the city council or the school board get to pick their own contract.

Kasich says this system is the best option since "city councils and school boards ought to decide what a community can afford," but how does this work in practice?

Well we here at ProgressOhio have put together a case study on safety equipment in Xenia, OH and what we found will shock you. Not only to the local elected officials try to put off replacing worn out safety equipment, they go one to say that firefighters and police should be buying their own safety equipment.

The worst part of this shameless display is that these City Council members were fighting against safety equipment under the current collective bargaining system. Had the equipment been refused, and luckily it wasn't since those two anti-worker council members were a minority, the unions would have been able to negotiate for replacement safety gear in their next contract.

If SB5/Issue 2 is not voted down, these council members would be given free rein to impose requirements on a political whim regardless of the safety of the community, whether that's making firefighters buy their own fire-proof gear or police buy their own bullet-proof vests.

Don't let our communities' safety be put at risk by petty politicians making short sighted decisions.

Vote No on Issue 2.

What is wrong with these people. It will take something happening to their family and when you cannot respond properly to the call because of lack of equipment wether a fireman or policeman etc because these outdated simple minded people cannot see why they should have safety equipment, i say the next time a tornado happens or an accident happens or a fire happens haul their butts down their and thell them they should clean up their own mess.
