By manufacturing a crisis Gov. Calvo unilaterally took over the hospital and replaced the GMH board/management. He has created the atmosphere of fear by citing cases of mismanagement and medical malpractice/negligence. In his propaganda speech he invoked fear, suffering/dead/dying children, lying and negligent GMH administrators (not staff, of course), long lines, full beds, and empty medicine cabinets.
He says, "As a father, it angers me so deeply that the problems at the hospital are hurting children. How many others have been hurt? How many may have died?" Painting the image as the benevolent gov-father, Calvo is now forced to resuscitate the juvenile hospital and amputate the "gangrenous stumps" starting with the GMH leadership, the same leadership who got our Community Hospital accredited last year. Let's not forget Gov. Calvo was Sen. Calvo before GMH and GovGuam was in "crisis".
We, the citizen community should be wary of boogiemen and chicken littles who say "the sky is falling and there is no money in the till". There is money... just not in the pockets of the commoners.
Update: The PDN reported the family of the boy whose leg was amputated chose to keep travel plans against the doctor's orders to stay at the hospital. The doctor claims this is the first time he heard of the suit and later settlement.
