I agree that gay marriage should be handled by the states but to think that Obama truly believes that is crazy since he wants government in all aspects of our lives.

COme on Jack, you are dodging. The federal Gov't has to decide if soldiers are married for pay purposes, federal Workers get health insurance, immigration visas are often based of family relations etc, to pretend the Fed does not need to take a position is .. well, a little lame.

Tax laws and other laws disadvantage some (but not all) gay domestic partners as compared with some (but not all) straight married couples; however, the same laws also disadvantage unmarried straight couples, platonic roommates, cohabiting siblings, parents living with adult children and many other domestic partnerships. Gay marriage does nothing to remedy these other inequities.

Gay marriage is not equality. Equality eliminates tax and other advantages for childless, married straight couples.
