Hmmm Fascinating

That's not true.
There was no new law passed prohibiting steam, and they still run one steam trip a day. In fact NH law RSA 125-C:20 specifically exempts steam engines from environmental laws.
No, this was purely a miserly act to pinch pennies on the part of the operators. It's cheaper to run and cheaper to insure diesel.
But notice that the ticket price remains the same, regardless of what engine you ride.
These travesty tractors should be taken out of service.

Its not their fault. They were told to do this by the State. The State made a new pollution law that prohibits them to use the steam engines. They only get to use the steam engines once in a while now :/

ASSHOLES...

Happily, I made the trip up the mountain when there was only ONE trip with the "diseasel" and all the rest were steam. If it was the other way around, I wouldn't have bothered going there all the way from Illinois. Steam rules!
-
what!??? WTF!!!! The mount washington is a steam railroad, whats that hybrid piece of junk doing there? let me guess, stupid tree huggers I mean Environmentalists bitching about a little coal smoke? Steam is better! Diesels are worse! whos with me?
-
@WhyAyeMann your right !these fuckin loonies think that this little steam locomoitve is making to much smoke and is harming the environment
-
They have a red biodiesel too????? How many do they have, 5?
-
WOW! It sounds like it's using some old V12 Cummins KTA series mechanical diesel! I notice the engine revs at hi rpms as this rolling stock climbs up grade, jesus, I couldn't imagine the amount of fuel consumption that's increased! Btw, Great Catch!
-
Awesome video sexy..next time we have to get our ass's up earlier so we can get on the steam one!! The diesel one is still a blast! I love you
-
Actually, those things arent going to last even 20 years whithout being rebuilt from the ground up again which would cost millions of dollars. Ya never know, the demand for steam by the general public might bring them back ;)
WHAAT? This railroad has converted to Diesel?
I just can't believe it. Might be a result of extreme environmental laws. What about outlawing SUV's in the US?

Yeah, about a year or 2 ago they did.
That is why they switched, cause of the environmental laws.
You can still ride a steam engine up to the top still too, but only the 9am one is a steamer.

Personaly, I think these new bio-engines take the charm out of the ride :(

I agree 100%. But they are cheaper to run so more profit for them to make. Sucks, but I guess its business. You can take a steam engine at 9am, that's the only time they use a steamer.
