The Arab League 'belongs to a different era'

Speaking to Al Jazeera's Shakuntala Santhiran, Rachel Shabi, an author and journalist says, the Arab League "seems to be stuck in a narrative that belongs to a different era".

Citing the mentions of the peace process and calls for a return to 1967 borders, Shabi says the bloc is out of touch with the realities on the ground in Palestine.

"The peace process is really dead and buried" to many Palestinians, Shabi said from London.

The Palestinians, said Shabi are likely to wonder why it took "three days for the Arab League to convene an emergency meeting".

Shabi also said there has been an "unfair amount of pressure" placed upon Egypt by the international community to broker an end to the escalating tensions. A pressure, she says has not been placed upon Israel, "if anything it has a greenlight to continue its actions" in the Gaza Strip.

It's just an hypotheses, unless there are Agreements between the Au and the Arab league about there membership, and the Arab league goals is different from the AU goals. Because I know a lot about the AU is to help trade with it members state and an create a common currency for the whole region and make integration easier. But i don't know a lot about the Arab league i guess it is a religion thing.

I am just saying that in the future the Arab league and the African union will be in conflict that they can avoid early. As an Arab don't u think they Arab League don't wanna form a regional and solid trade bloc? And as an African, don't u think the AU will try to do the same?? So Arabs Member of the African union will have to choose one between the 2. They sooner it got divide the better it will be to avoid conflict. because both blocs trust you and they will be fighting for you.

So what? I'm from Sudan which is a both African and Arab country. We stick to both African and Arab leagues, but we are more close to the Arab league 'cuz we share almost everything: religion, language, culture, past and future. We will always be united by religion first then blood second.

I know, and I am not jealous (why should i be?). I am just making a point because some Arab countries are member of 2 organization of the same type (African union and Arab league.) I know that those 2 organisation support each other but it will be cool to have 2 organisation (in which the members should belong to one only) or one global organisation. Because the futur of the region is going to be a mess trust me!!!

don't mix religion and politics, Politics is politic and religion is religion. It's why the Arab league is weak and useless, and the members have people from 2 different continent. It doesn't make sense i wonder how they gonna do this. Plus some of the Arab league countries are also in the African union. I hope the Arab league is different from other trade bloc like the EU and the AU. No offense to Arab people but i just need clarification.
