  • That cowboy who rides from the town to the ranch sure looks like Charles Grodin! Never saw the talented mr Grodin in a Western before now! Fascinating! And I never knew that late great character actor Charles Bickford was a regular on "The Virginian" until now. One of TV's longest running shows, though I never watched it much when I was a kid in the 60's. THANKS for sharing this clip with us! :)

  • @JubalCalif Sorry for such a long delay in picking up your message. Yes you're right that is Charles Grodin. Sadly, Charles Bickford had only a comparatively short stay on the series as he died during the filming of the 1967 season. Glad you enjoyed the video.

No problem in regards to the long delay, denver! I know how it is. I'm not surprised to hear the late great Mr Bickfored died during the show's '67 season. Fine actor until the end, but he did NOT look well. Poor fellow....I highly recommend his autobiography from the mid-60's. I forget the whole title but it has the words "actors" and "balls" in it. A highly enjoyable read; Mr Bickford was an intelligent, thoughtful & intelligent gentleman. THANKS so much for your comment!

  • @JubalCalif Thanks, I'll look out for that book. You might be interested in a book about The Virginian series itself - "A History of Television's The Virginian 1962-1971" by Paul Green, published by MacFarland. Besides synopes and actors' biographies it goes into some depth on the way the shows were produced and some of the behind the scenes politics.

THANK YOU very much, denver, for the info about that "Virginian" book! Sounds like it's not an entertaining but a very informative volume! Kind of you to give me that "heads up" about it. :)
