  • Good thing he checked to see if he was in tune. That could have sounded horrible!

  • @RappoldXJay No. Most people here are pretentious twats who think that strumming random strings on a guitar and playing random notes make one a skilled musician.

Or even worse, that people who force themselves to listen to this shit are "intelligent" and can "appreciate good music".

I bet you'll respond to me in a manner like "Oh, this true ART is just too DEEP for you.". Go fuck yourself, you pretentious piece of shit.

  • @tauwilltriumph he is not playing random notes, there is in fact a logic to what he is doing. have you tried to play dissonant music before? its surprising how hard it actually is to create and how repetitive randomness will sound. there are plenty of aesthetic reasons to not enjoy music this dissonant, and it doesnt make you less intelligent to not like it. but you simply cannot write this off as an idiot flailing around randomly on an instrument

  • If I would play something like this at home my wife would kill me. For me as a guitar player these are great skills. But to listen to it as a non-guitarist is heavy stuff...

  • "Experimental music that doesn't experiment with anything"

  • The late Derek Bailey played as though The Guitar had descended from the sky and had no baggage attached to it. That he could free guitar–playing from all the whimsical, ‘heard it all before’ nonsense that people STILL insist on making heralds the man as a genius. RECOGNISE.

And yes, I listen to Metal. And Classical. And Jazz, Techno, funk, and other genres too wide–ranging to list. I also love free improv, big whoop.

  • @Rascaduanok You know what? You're right, I don't understand. How does something this terrible receive so much love? I'm not claiming that he can't play guitar at all; I've read that he used to play in big jazz groups rather well. This, however, is just a mess. Whether or not one is entrenched in guitar tradition, there's nothing redeeming about it at all.

  • @jimmyjimbo72 “When you encounter something you do not understand, do not dismiss it as misconstructed, damaged or irrelevant.” I've always found Derek Bailey to be a test of how entrenched in guitar tradition a listener is.

  • @RappoldXJay I love more or less every style of music under the sun, even some experimental stuff. This, however, is some moron playing whatever the hell he wants with his guitar and a bunch of idiots supporting him in order to appear original and cultured.

On the one hand, there's discordant music that works; this certainly doesn't.

I am not a huge fan of Linkin Park, but they're a mile better than Derek Bailey. I expect to be flamed, but I seriously don't care, just had to share my opinion.

  • I love you so much. I miss you Grandad.

  • @JacobAPeck Yes I have. George Russell, right?

    Gary

  • @kolby386 Thank you for telling me what I should or should not like and what is or is not music. I really appreciate it. Now, who should I vote for and what should I wear tomorrow?
