Part one: Sons of Israel; Roots of Bitterness

The bitterness turns to hate, hate to a crime. Joseph sold into slavery is the most storied tail today. Millions have heard the biblical true story of a slave who became the second most powerful man in Egypt, only second to Pharaoh.

Torah Reading: Gen 37:1-40:23 Amos 2:6-3:8

This begins our Torah series on Joseph
Gen 37:3- Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.

Gen 37:4- And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him

Joseph however is only part of Jacob and Israel. Before we travel down Joseph expected outcome in Egypt, we find Amos. In Amos the message is pointed at Jacob, Israel; the mighty prince with Men and God. Yet, even with Joseph being used of God to deliver Israel out of a famine at the time; Israel ran into trouble.
The trouble Amos lines out in his book of the Prophets. The Lord asks through Amos to Israel this pointed question "Can two walk together except they be agreed?" The answer is no! Jacob the mighty prince has fallen. Jacob who had power with God no longer has that power. For her sins, the sins of Israel have separated her from her God. In all this the story of Joseph lines us out to understand the hand of God in Israel. It is a story of the Hebrews, a story of nations, and the love of a God who fulfills his promise to Abraham, his friend.
Isa 41:8 But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.
Jas 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
