Poor David, my heart really went out to him on this song. I think it was the emotion of the song so soon after Adam's death rather than not being able to reach the notes that made him decide to stop so abruptly (he hit plenty of high notes on other songs). He did say "this is going to be hard for me for a bit" or something to that effect. I respect him for playing the gigs so soon after his loss and right before the funeral. He has amazing strength.

He can't finish the song because the song has been being sung to, for and about Adam. The words are not directed to any past love anymore but became about Adam.
