There is a good reason for that. All of the Battlestar Galactica displays were provided by Tektronix, the same company that made the display you see here, and those used on most of the CAD/CAM systems in the 70's. Most of the systems used the larger 19 inch display (Tektronix 4014). The display provided bright green lines on a dark green background.
Watching the screen update reminds me of the old Battlestar Galactica show from the 70's where the computer displays in the show would draw a Cylon Raider or a Colonial Viper on the screen.
It's almost organic. So very very very reminiscent of LOST.
