@Lukyo1984 "by means of logic and reason" That is not what you subscribe to. You subscribe to a morality based on obedience to authority, which is the opposite of 'by means of logic and reason'.
Morality based on obedience to authority is exactly what psychopathy is. Especially if you add a lack of empathy to that mix.
"psychotic" Psychopathy is not the same as psychotic. Psychotic is a condition disconnect from reality and involves visual and/or audible hallucinations.
@ScientificBob So because I subscribe to understand morality as a matter of truth by means of logic and reason that makes me a psychopath? Hardly.

Communications through a YouTube forum does not allow to label anyone as a real psychotic. Of course it seems that "psychopath" for you is your label for people who have a difference in conscience from you, a label for the nonbelievers of your personal belief opinions.
@ScientificBob I'm a Christian I'm not suppose to keep the sabbath or punish those who don't keep it. Rational discourse, reasoning, discussion is used to form policy not establish morality, and if morality really does vary greatly from culture to culture then moarlity really is a matter of opinion.
-
By the way how often do you really evaluate your morality since it must be decided in a public discourse?
@Lukyo1984 The saddest part of all this, is that you don't even live by or believe the stupid shit you say. You claim that some god is necessary for morality and you claim that morals come from the bible.
Yet, not in a million years would you actually even consider killing someone for working on the sabbath. Never in a millions years would you actually think about keeping slaves - let alone beating them to death.
You should step back and really evaluate the "morals" in this book.
@Lukyo1984 Morality is not about 'truth' like 2+2=4 is about 'truth'. Morality is about general agreement how people should behave in a social setting. This agreement is reached through rational discourse, reasoning, discussion,... Not through talking to your imaginary friend or by blindly accepting whatever a book from the bronze-age states.
Morals evolve and aren't static. The sheer fact that morals differ from culture to culture is a testament to this.
@Lukyo1984 "I've worked with children who are 4-5" So did world class psychologists and neurobiologists. Excuse me while I consider the findings of their research to be more important then whatever you have to say on the matter.
"Also empathy is not a basis for anything " Except that it is.
"you have already proclaimed that this discussion is not about truth" Not about 'cosmic truth', which is the kind of 'truth' you yap about.
@ScientificBob I've worked with children who are 4-5. One of the hardest things the teachers tries to reinforce on them is to not wrong others on the basis of "how would that make you feel".

Also empathy is not a basis for anything since this you have already proclaimed that this discussion is not about truth. Your idea of society is kinda like general populous from the movie "Equilibrium" who exist only to further their existence.
@Lukyo1984 "You talk about it as if it is universal and absolute" No, that's what you do. Morals evolve as our experience and understanding grows.
"By the way empathy is an intellectual exercise that you acquire with time, experience, and knowledge" No, it's not. It's a trait of the human brain that will emerge automatically, unless you are a psychopath.

Every day. Every time you take a decision.
You obviously don't, since you're a psychopath.

@Lukyo1984 Empathy has a neurobiological basis. It's present in all healthy humans. If it isn't, then that person has a mental disorder.
The fundamentals of empathy are allready manifested in children from the age of 2. Even at the age of 1, rudimentary empathy is even exhibited.
By the age of 4, it is fully developed.
Inform yourself. Please.
