Portal : How To 1 Step Out Of An Elevator

this is an explanation of how to take a single step out of an elevator in portal. this video is uncut until 30 seconds.

first time the level loads: im letting my computer load the level just so it will load more smoothly for the following times.

second time the level loads: i'm saving as soon as possible (before the level visually loads).

third time the level loads: i'm holding back while loading, demostrating you will start in the rear of the elevator.

fourth time the level loads: im holding back while loading, but as the level loads i move forward and jump before the doors open. steps aren't counted until after the doors open. i then land outside giving me only 1 step.

the fifth time the level loads: a demonstration of how 0 steps might be possible. if you are able to jump, (then doors open) then shoot 2 portals on the ground before you land, you will get 0 steps.

is this too much of an exploit to be counted as legitimate?

you can use this trick on every chamber, it's just quationable whether it should be counted as a legit record or not, because of the steps needed to achieve it.

Nice. Doesn't look like 0 would be possible. If it is you couldn't possibly still get 0 steps on the whole level, could you?

if 0 stepping out of the elevator is possible, then 0 stepping the entire level is possible (at least lvl 13-16)

because in the current records, you take 2 steps out of the elevator, and make no more steps the entire level (once again, in levels 13-16)

@Shakyugano correction: Portal was on the xBox 360 in a pack of Valve's other originl Steam Games (The Orange Box: Includes Half-Life 2 [Episodes 1 and 2], Portal [1 only], and Team Fortress [2. Does anybody even remember TF1?])

I don't condone using cheats or exploiting bugs or clipping issues or that backwards hopping thing or picking up and item you are standing on. I still think it's cool, but I would try it myself cause I wouldn't want to mess up my score. But in my opinion this guy watch?v=k4aTUBrDRlg still did it in the 2 steps it takes to get out the elevator.

OK, just so everyone knows, there are several "cheats" you can use without getting achievements taken away and activating SV_cheats. You can minipulate gravity (I believe it's SV_gravity in the console, as well as being able to put portals on black (SV_portal_placement_neverfail 1 I think) and Buddha-which is basicly godmode except you take damage but don't die-sometimes bugs with turrets. You may also be to slow time I don't remember the code. Thumbs up to keep alive!

i did this. it's impossible for me because im ALWAYS fucking frozen before the door opens. I spammed the save point before i even get to the level to the very second it pops up at the second time it loads. i did the rest of this shit. i got 3 steps. This fails for me.

now portal 2 might be different but the original game is a pc game

so pretty much, the only way to beat this, is to fuck with saving, if your normal, just get 10 steps, and maybe you'll get a gf

@cray0523 You cant doge bullets.

The source engine doesn't render physical bullets, because that would be stupid to make somthing you would never see without slowing down time, instead they just generate where they would exactly hit on the fly.

And you go into console and type "sv_cheats 1" hit enter, and then type "host_timescale 0.1" to slow all the way and 0.5 to go half the speed, and 1 to go the regular speed, and 2-4 to make time in the game go faster
