The Aradzani Dance Group learned these four dances from the late Arsen Anooshian. Arsen was the last director of the Armenian Folk Dance Society. The society was formed in 1935 and their objective was to collect pre-1915 Armenian dances from survivors of the Armenian Genocide. In the 1930s they interviewed survivors and collected and documented their dances. We are thankful to Arsen and the Folk Dance Society for perpetuating these dances.

In this clip our youngest members are dancing a medley of Pre-1915 dances from the region of Garin (Erzerum).
Kher Pahn is a song/dance
Ousgi Goukas was also called Shavali in Garin and was a dance only. In the town of Yerznga (Erzinjan) west of Garin it was called Houshig Moushig and was a song/dance.
Akhaltskhayee Vart was a song/dance.
Khosh Bilezig which means cute bracelet was like a national dance in this region. In Yerzngah it was also called Vosgi Abaranchah or Golden bracelet.
Thank you everyone. We are playing the music for Aradzani Dance Group DVD. It should be available some time in Jan. 2012. Also in this DVD will be an interview of my grandmother, Lisa great grandmother, who is a genocide survivor. She is 101 yrs old. The music and dancing is from that region and time period. j
