@MsFantasma0 I'm thinking he's probably trying to sound sad because technically the song is about a lost dog. He's most likely trying to convey the feeling of the lyrics rather than the feeling of it being a campy 60s children's cartoon lol.

Apparently he dedicated this song to his late dog, Chaser, shortly after he died. Makes a little more sense now instead of just a really sad/drunk song for no reason lol
