why are they using steel tubing frame?
kriegdouch 1 year ago
@kriegdouch The real reason that Japs switched to Alum. frames isn't performance, it was the availability of Japanese steel and the prices. They had to switch and infact, use more Alum. to get the same level of reliability (i.e. alum. is soft and brakes easier). So in the end, the weight is the same and the first frames were very rigid and didnt handle well. Some do prefer steel over alum. and even KTM was using steel frames for a long time but perception is stronger than fact.

@tobyeo oh i was just thinking that box tubing was better. It all makes sence, more aluminum to compare steel strengthwise. equals to the same weight, i just figured round tubing would just twist and eaisly bend.

@kriegdouch This has changed for 2011, go to maico international's website and go to the media room.
